THE HOLLYWOOD STUDIO SYSTEM
1930 - 1949
This was the period in which major Hollywood studios had control of the entire film industry.
-The Lumiere brothers made the first film in 1895.
These first films would last no longer than a few minutes, and then went on to have a significant influence on popular culture.
Before this, in the early 1920s, no sound was used in movies. These were called silent movies, and they focused heavily on over the top acting, and background music. Talking pictures, (the first was The Jazz Singer, which appeared in 1927), were nicknamed 'Talkies'.
